Now on Congress we have: King Ranch leather goods, Tecova Allen's Allen's Lite now... Lucchese is coming to town. I'm a native Texan. I wear boots with everything. Dresses, shorts, jeans, when I'm at my dressiest and when I'm working in the yard. Around here people have their work boots and their church boots... but now they are such a fashion statement, that it a requirement to have brown, black, standard heel, high heel, stilleto, white leather, some kind of bedazzled leather, snake skin, alligator skin, ostritch... I mean, I need them all, doesn't everyone? Even though I wear them most days, I still can't imagine paying as much as some of these boots cost!!! Mystery solved- after I filmed this I found out that it is the CSuite that most likely is moving to the new leased space in Westlake. The main Apple campus is in north Austin, but most of the leadership live in west/central Austin and would appear to not want to make the drive. Who can blame them? As beautiful as Westlake is, there really aren't a lot to do or places to eat however, so I'm picturing a lot of exec lunches coming up at Lupe Tortillas! Should execs be able to work near where they live but everyone else have to commute? I mean I get it, but no one wants to deal with Mopac in rush hour!! Austin Competing with Orlando Airport? Canceling 21 nonstop flight routes?!

Austin increased its number of flights by a massive amount- only second to Orlando! It decreased its number of destinations however... A few years ago you could get to the Austin airport with 30 minutes until your gate call and not even need to hurry. Now, that isn't the case. Airlines are saying that be decreasing the number of destinations, they'll be able to increase the number of seats and flights on the remaining destinations. Poo in the streets? Probably not, but there is a freeze on construction in Dripping Springs until wastewater expansion is worked out. It’s not something we think about often since getting water IN is such a big topic of conversation. All but giving away condos- good or bad thing?

Does affordable housing ruin neighborhoods? What about condos? High rises? Some in Austin are pushing for more density, but allowing taller buildings, smaller lots or more units per lot. As a trade off, the city is asking for some of those units to be affordable. What is affordable housing? That seems subjective right! It’s actually a program through the city, that sets limits on the income of the applicant, and also sets limits on the amount of appreciation that the property can gain (to prevent investors from buying them and flipping them.). The unit prices are a certain percentage of the market value of the standard units. I’d love to hear from yall- what are your thoughts? Is adding more housing to central Austin a good thing? Mergers and acquisitions- good idea or too many mega companies? #yetiflagshipaustin

I’m often not a huge fan of company mergers just because some of what makes each small business special can get lost. When there are gaps however in one company’s offerings and the second company improves both of their product lines, then it seems like a good idea. This doesn’t directly add jobs to the Austin economy, but long term if Yeti grows, they may need to add more Texans to their workforce down the road.
