Does affordable housing ruin neighborhoods? What about condos? High rises? Some in Austin are pushing for more density, but allowing taller buildings, smaller lots or more units per lot. As a trade off, the city is asking for some of those units to be affordable. What is affordable housing? That seems subjective right! It’s actually a program through the city, that sets limits on the income of the applicant, and also sets limits on the amount of appreciation that the property can gain (to prevent investors from buying them and flipping them.). The unit prices are a certain percentage of the market value of the standard units. I’d love to hear from yall- what are your thoughts? Is adding more housing to central Austin a good thing? Is adding more affordable housing a good thing?
