There are limits on how much a seller can contribute to this, so we’ll make sure that you can maximize your seller paid costs. 2. Work on your credit score before you are ready to buy. It isn’t that scary to have a lender pull your credit and give you a copy. It will hurt your credit less than waiting till the last minute and finding out that you have some mistakes on there or small bills that need to be paid off. Paying those off may increase your score significantly, which may reduce your rate and subsequently your monthly payment. 3. Shop around for lenders. Some lenders are able to offer different rates and terms. They expect you to shop around and have ways to be competitive that you may not be aware of. 4. Find out what down payment amount gives you the best rate. You may think that the higher the down payment, the lower the rate, but that isn’t always the case.
